Go to the snow
Lots of families are spending their weekends skiing this winter. But there are far cheaper ways to go play in the snow — while we have the chance. If you want to go frolic in the white stuff, plan carefully.
- Sledding and tubing spots around the region deliver a screaming good time.
- There is a popular Sno-Park at the Annette Lake trailhead. It’s not a sledding spot, but you can go for snowball fights or building snowpeople.
- Snowshoeing is a fab family sport. It’s fun, it’s easy and it costs a lot less than downhill skiing. If you’d like to try out snowshoeing with a guide, sign up for a free ranger-guided snowshoe walk. (Bring your snowshoes; or rent from a gear shop like REI if needed.)
- If you’d rather glide on ice than stomp through snow, there are a few ice-skating rinks open year-round. Sprinker Recreation Center even has ice bumper cars!
