Get Schooled in Anaphylaxis™, an initiative sponsored by Mylan Specialty L.P., was created to help everyone in a school setting be aware of the signs and symptoms of a life-threatening allergic reaction, and to help those at risk to avoid allergens at all times and be prepared to respond if anaphylaxis occurs. Visitors to the exhibit can use a smartphone or tablet to take an interactive, animated tour using augmented reality technology, which makes educational videos on a mural come to life; and gather information about the Raise Your Hand for Anaphylaxis Awareness™ competition, where four school districts with the highest number of “hands raised” will each win a $15,000 educational grant. Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur anywhere and at any time, even if you may not think you or someone you know are at risk. The facts: Children and adolescents are among those most at risk for anaphylaxis due to increased exposure to potential allergic triggers. Some foods, insect venom, certain medications, latex or other allergens can trigger anaphylaxis. Food allergies – a common cause of anaphylaxis – affect an estimated one in 13 U.S. children. Anaphylaxis causes approximately 1,500 deaths each year in America.mAvoidance of allergic triggers is the critical first step in managing life-threatening allergies, but allergens are not always obvious and accidental exposure may still happen.
