Gaze over the city from the top of Hallgrimskirkja

The exterior of Hallgrimskirkja, downtown Reykjavík’s largest church, is impressive enough from ground level, but take your kids to the top. For a nominal fee you can take an elevator and get a bird's-eye view of the city, water and surrounding mountains. You can stay inside and peek out of the modern stained-glass windows, or you can walk up one flight of steps to get to the top viewing deck. Enjoy a mini scavenger hunt with your kids as you point out soccer fields, white houses with colorful roofs, and boats coming and going from port.

Best time to enjoy: year round

Best for ages: 3 and up
