Event Picks South Sound, July 2009

Published on: July 01, 2009

Capital idea! There’s something for everyone — and I do mean everyone — at Capital Lakefair, Olympia’s long-running summertime bash: grand parade, fireworks, entertainment, fun run, Kids’ Day, volleyball tourney, car show, boat races … you get the picture. The festival runs July 15-19 at Heritage/Capital Lake Park. Plot your fun at Capital Lakefair.

Big deal. Watch karate demonstrations and play Deal or No Deal — Lacey style — on July 25, and compete for prizes donated by local business (to be a contestant, register in advance at 360-491-0857). Afterward, settle in for a screening of Kung Fu Panda, in which sweet 'n' slow panda Po acquires mad martial arts skills and saves his village from a rampaging snow leopard with daddy issues. The game show starts at 7 p.m.; the movie is at dusk. Free. Huntamer Park, Seventh and Woodland Square Loop, Lacey.

Sundae, sundae. Celebrate the Fourth at Meeker Mansion’s old-fashioned concert and dessert feed! Chill out on the lawn while the Puyallup Community Band performs, and buy sundaes, shortcake and cheesecake — topped with local strawberries — from the snack bar. Be sure to bring a lawn chair and blanket. Free, but donations will be accepted. July 4, 4-6 p.m. 312 Spring St., Puyallup. 253-848-1770.
