Event Picks South Sound, October 2008

Published on: October 01, 2008

The South Sound area’s most popular corn maze is throwing money into the mix! Visit the Amazing Money Maze through Oct. 31 for chances to win tons of great loot, from iPods to movie tickets. Choose between the 1.2- and 1.8-mile mazes and stop at six checkpoints along the way. Answer financial trivia questions and get your card punched — each punch is an entry into daily and weekly prize drawings. Take part in the flashlight hunt on Fridays and Saturdays after 5 p.m., or stop by any day during the week — but call for open hours before you set out; daylight hours vary. $7–$8, Sundays $6. (And if you’re looking for something a little spookier, try the Rutledge Haunted Maze on Friday and Saturday nights. The $10 admission gets you into all three mazes.) The Tacoma Children’s Museum turns the timeless Native American tales of tricksters Raven and Coyote into an interactive exhibit. “Soar into Story: The Adventures of Raven and Coyote,” based on the books written by Caldecott Medal–winning author Gerald McDermott, allows children to re-enact scenes from the stories through costumes, sketching, animation and more. Parents are encouraged to read with their child and learn the stories, too. $6, younger than 1 free. Oct.1–Dec. 31: Monday–Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m., Sunday noon–5 p.m. Tacoma Children’s Museum, 936 Broadway, Tacoma. 253-627-6031, childrensmuseumoftacoma.org/looking-forward

Kids get to participate in the free 1-mile run and can purchase the optional $5 T-shirt for finishing. Registration 7:30–8 a.m.; pre-race meeting 8:15 a.m.; race begins 8:30 a.m. $25, day of race $30. Register at Poulsbo Running or Sound Sports. 360-779-8757, rootsrockrun.com
