Take in the gushing glory of Gullfoss
Iceland boasts a number of spectacular waterfalls, but Gullfoss (about 70 miles from Reykjavík) is an easy one for families to enjoy any time of year. At Gulfoss (which means “golden falls”), the falls pour over rocks, kicking up mist and rainbows. In winter, icicles form around the rushing waters, creating ever-changing ice sculptures. Any bus tour of the Golden Circle (a route in South Iceland that loops from Reykjavík to central Iceland and back) will take you there, and the paths are easy for even young children to walk down for a closer look.
Note: The only guards against falling over the falls are thin ropes tied to sticks. Hold tight to your little ones who like to wander.
Best time to enjoy: year round
