Sockeye, and sometimes Chinook and coho, run the Cedar River from mid-September into early November. Viewing sites along the Cedar River are part of King County’s Salmon SEEson program, as well as Seattle Aquarium’s Cedar River Salmon Journey program.
Volunteer naturalists are stationed at viewing sites to answer questions and to help educate kids and families about salmon migration. Naturalist dates for four of the sites listed below are Oct. 7, 8,14,15, 21, 22, 28 and 29 from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. The Cedar River Salmon Journey site also has some DIY materials for families, including a downloadable bingo game and field journal, plus a webinar series.
Locations: The designated viewing sites are the Renton Library, Cedar River Park, Riverview Park, Belmondo Beach and Landsburg Park. Visit Cedar River Salmon Journey for location information and detailed directions.
