Seattle Historical Arts for Kids presents Songs & Dances of Shakespeare's Time

Calendar/Event Details

50784

Shakespeare's First Folio is coming to Seattle, and the fine young singers and actors of SHAK present a casual afternoon concert of music from the Bard's own time.

The children and teens of SHAK bring the world of the Renaissance to life with popular songs and dances of the period, performed in period costume. This charming program for all ages presents the rowdy songs of the Elizabethan ratcatcher and chimney sweep, side by side with the sweetest tunes from Shakespeare's stage and the most elegant dances from the court. Music from Italy in the age of Galileo -- born the same year as Shakespeare -- rounds out the program. With instrumentalists Shulamit Kleinerman (violin), John Lenti (lute, theory), and Jacob Breedlove (viola da gamba, winds, percussion).

Directed by Shulamit Kleinerman, Seattle Historical Arts for Kids has been introducing young people to the arts and culture of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras since 2005.

Free. One hour. Seattle Central Library, 3rd floor (5th Ave entrance level).

Material related to SHAK's Galileo project is partially sponsored by the Seattle Office of Arts & Culture.
