Tools for Success: How to Plan (not Panic) for College

Calendar/Event Details

The college selection process can be intimidating, confusing, and downright scary. Parents and students in grades 5 through 12 are invited to spend an evening with us in the Upper School Performing Arts Center to learn practical strategies for every step of the college journey.

Colleen Murray, Dean of College and Academic Advising, will begin by demystifying college admissions. Colleen has an extensive background in college and academic advising having served more than two decades in education. She holds a bachelor’s in psychology and a master’s in counseling from San Diego State University, where she also earned a Pupil Personnel Services Credential.

Then Kenny Norris, English Department Chair, will discuss how to master the college essay. Kenny joined the Bear Creek English faculty in 2006 and was honored in 2017 by Stanford University’s Teacher Tribute program.

Finally, Drew Armstrong, Upper School Humanities Teacher, will end with a discussion about the interpersonal skills every college student needs to master. After completing two master’s degrees, Drew turned to teaching, and if given the chance, he will talk your ear off about theology, philosophy, and college football.

Tools for Success is a seminar series at which Bear Creek faculty will speak on a variety of parenting and academic topics. These sessions focus on subjects ranging from preschool to college planning.
