La Cocina cooking class at El Centro de la Raza
Get cooking
El Centro de la Raza’s La Cocina does double duty as a cooking school and a creative funding source for El Centro’s senior programs. Not only that, La Cocina draws from the local community right outside its doors for the inspiration for its cooking class menus. Often the same food truck vendors you see on the square at El Centro are the instructors of the classes.
“We coach these vendors for certification and hire them to teach the classes,” says the school’s manager, Suzy Lee. So not only will you learn to prepare (and eat) a delicious three-course Latin American meal, you’ll do so knowing your effort is benefitting your local community.
