Uncover local history and culture

“People might be surprised to know that some of Seattle’s downtown buildings contain stone that is 3.4 billion years old,” says author and geologist David B. Williams, who leads historic walking tours for MOHAI, Historic Seattle and Atlas Obscura. Williams is representative of the experts who lead programs for these organizations. The mission is to share meaningful places in the region’s built history with those who live here now.

“More and more we are expanding into the cultural side of history, and places of importance to a group of people or a community,” says Liz Johnson, Education Program Manager for Historic Seattle. Upcoming field trips include a visit to a historic building in the community of Fall City.

Group size: Up to 20 for walking tours

Time commitment: 90 minutes to 2 hours

Cost: $10–$35 depending on program and organization
