In this five session course, artist Jen Kinney will teach participants four different methods of bookbinding!

When: Mondays, April 27 through June 1 (No class on Monday, May 25th)
Time: 6-7:30 pm
Length: Five weeks
Age: 14+
Cost: $80 for all five classes or $20 for an individual class

Class 1: Intro to bookbinding tools & concepts--Accordion book & Pamphlet Stitch
Class 2: Japanese stab stitch [paperback, exposed spine, single sheets]
Class 3: Coptic bind [hardcover, exposed spine, lays flat]
Classes 4 & 5: Case-bound [hardcover with spine]

Because we will be using sharp blades, this class is recommended for ages 14 and up. ReCreative will provide the requisite materials, and participants are welcome to bring their own.

About the Instructor

Jen Kinney writes, reads, photographs, binds books, and is on a mission to create more than she consumes. Currently she is dabbling in herbal remedies and teaching herself radio production. Her writing and documentary photography, which often focus on community development and the influence of physical space on social structures, have appeared on the walls of Duke University's Center for Documentary Studies and in publications such as High Country News, the Anchorage Press, and Yonder Journal. New to the Seattle area by way of New York City and Alaska, she wants to hear all about your art / love / passion / favorite Seattle adventures.
