Bringing Baby Home 2-Day Workshop at Village Maternity

Calendar/Event Details

2–Day Workshop, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, August 4th–5th.

Taught by Ursula Hildebrandt, PhD, MSW

Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of having a new baby, we neglect to take care of our partnerships. Unfortunately, research has shown that 2/3 of couples experience a drastic decline in relationship satisfaction after the birth of a baby. Drs. Julie and John Gottman, the researchers behind “The Art and Science of Love” workshop, developed a research-based 2-day intervention for new parents called “Bringing Baby Home.” Compared to couples who did not participate in the program, couples who did participate experienced higher relationship quality, better attachment security to their babies, more father involvement with baby, and lower rates of post-partum depression in moms.

For the Bringing Baby Home workshop, we present materials directly from the Gottman Institute using an official Gottman workbook, PowerPoint slides, handouts, discussion, reflection, and skill building. Dr. Hildebrandt, a certified Gottman educator, also includes supplementary material from her years of teaching and researching infant development, her experience with working with parents and children in her practice, and her own personal parenting wisdom.

NOTE: this is a 2-day workshop. Couples find the workshop intense, informative, emotional, fun, and enormously helpful.

• 9 am – 4 pm Saturday and Sunday, with breaks for lunch.

• Bringing Baby Home is designed for couples expecting a baby, or who have already transitioned into parenthood. We welcome babes-in-arms to come with parents to the workshop (usually under 6-months).

• $250/couple for 12 hours of workshop, 1-hour of individualized couples' counseling (anytime in the first year of your baby’s life), and Bringing Baby Home supplies and materials.

• Scholarships are available.

• Covered by Microsoft EAP benefits
