Join Ragamala Seattle for a family-friendly day of Indian music and art activities at the Seattle Asian Art Museum.
EVENT SCHEDULE:
10:30 am–Noon
Discover and explore North Indian classical instruments like the sitar, tabla, harmonium, and santoor, guided by teaching artists Sampada Bhalerao, Deepashri Joglekar, Manoj Deshpande, and Surya Pathak.
11 am–1 pm
Learn Indian designs during an art workshop conducted by Sweety Saradha Arts. Plus, enjoy beautiful visual art displays by local artist Karthika Kizhepat.
11:30 am–12:30 pm
Settle in for Dhrupad 101, an interactive performance that explores the early style of Hindustani (North Indian) music. Vocalist Akhil Jobanputra, accompanied by Sunny Matharu on the Jori-Dhamma, will dissect the question “What is Dhrupad?” through engaged dialogue and demonstration on the format, aesthetics, and objectives of Dhrupad.
1:30–4pm
A Dhrupad Vocal Concert by one of the foremost exponents of the Dagarvani tradition, Pt. Uday Bhawalkar, accompanied by Sukhad Munde on the Pakhavaj and Kirit Singh on the Tanpura.
