DanO Festival Returns for 2nd Year, Celebrating Corean Indigenous Culture & Community Solidarity

The Future Ancient is excited to bring back DanO Festival for its second year on Sunday, June 22, 2025, from 12:00 to 4:00 PM at Hing Hay Park (423 Maynard Ave S., Seattle, WA 98104). This free, public and family friendly event invites all community members to celebrate Corean Indigenous culture and solidarity and seasonal renewal through food, music, storytelling, art, and healing practices. This year’s festival is made possible by the financial support of 4Culture, Arts Fund, Seattle Parks and Recreation, and Seattle’s Office of Arts and Culture.

Rooted in one of Corea’s most ancient seasonal celebrations, DanO (단오) marks the 5th day of the 5th lunar month. It is a time to honor the sun, earth, seeds, and life-giving forces, and to reconnect with ancestral wisdom that promotes harmony with nature, community well-being, and resilience.

With the success of the 2024 first annual DanO Festival in Washington, festival director Che Sehyun is thrilled to have this year’s Dano organizing team help to curate the line-up, and have master artist and national hero Kim Bong Jun from South Korea return to share traditional Corean culture.

Event Highlights Include:

  • Traditional Corean rice cake sharing, making (떡치기) using seasonal herbs
  • Changpo (창포) herbal hair wash ceremony for cleansing and renewal
  • Local immigrant and Indigenous history exhibits by the Korean American Historical Society
  • Community arts & crafts, paper arts, and games
  • Free wellness offerings: massage, acupuncture, Tua Na & Qi healing
  • Cultural performances from diverse local groups
  • Kids Zone with family-friendly activities and a bouncy house
  • Local vendors featuring food, crafts, and handmade goods
